Two Texas Men Face Charges After Disturbing Discovery of Dead Dogs in Creek and In Their Freezer

A disturbing discovery: Two men face charges connected to 15 unalived dogs found in a creek in South Austin, Texas.

Fred John Riess and Rafael Cantu Baez-Riess are accused of wrapping the dogs in household trash, pee pads, and plastic bags when they moved.

At their new home, more unalived animals were found—some stored in freezers. The men also face charges for abandoning 14 ducks. A realtor says they refused offers of help relocating the animals. One man told investigators they’d temporarily put the dogs in a freezer until they could cremate them due to the cost of cremation.

They’re charged with felony unauthorized discharge and multiple misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
